This spring, Sarah Howard will become the sixth Director of Graphicstudio, a university-based print atelier, with Kristin Soderqvist and Tom Pruitt as newly appointed Associate Directors. Together, this dedicated leadership team will usher in a new future for the studio, one that is attentive and supremely engaged with the University of South ÊÖ»ú¿´Æ¬ (ÊÖ»ú¿´Æ¬) community and primed to introduce new artists to our students and the art world.

It wasn’t April Fools—just mischief that shaped ÊÖ»ú¿´Æ¬â€™s early campus trees
The landscaping around the University of South ÊÖ»ú¿´Æ¬â€™s Fine Arts Building is neat and organized – trees planted in straight rows along the sidewalks in a grid formation. But outside the adjacent Contemporary Art Museum, a small cluster of trees breaks formation – zigzagging unexpectedly away from the sidewalk. Hard to spot at first, but once noticed, impossible to ignore.

Every college has played a role in that impact. But ÊÖ»ú¿´Æ¬â€™s influence extends beyond classrooms and laboratories. It has also shaped lives in a far more personal way. Across generations, Bulls have met, fallen in love, married and built lives together. After all, you might say you can’t spell Cupid’s bullseye without the Bull.

From Cigar City to a hub for creativity: ÊÖ»ú¿´Æ¬â€™s 70-year role in Ybor City
In the 1960s through early ’70s, there was a saying about Ybor City’s main thoroughfare: "You could take a nap in the middle of Seventh Avenue and not worry about traffic," said Paul Wilborn, a 1975 ÊÖ»ú¿´Æ¬ graduate. "It was empty." The situation was so dire that in 1970, Tampa officials proposed turning the district into a bullfighting arena. Ybor was ultimately saved by bulls, but a different kind: the ÊÖ»ú¿´Æ¬ Bulls.

Music, Memory, and Service: Supporting Veterans Through Research
The University of South ÊÖ»ú¿´Æ¬ School of Music, NEA Research Labs’ Cognition and Coordination in Music Across the Lifespan has received a grant from the National Association for Music Merchants (NAMM) Foundation to support research exploring how music can contribute to cognitive health and well-being among veterans.

ÊÖ»ú¿´Æ¬ Artists Selected for The Ringling’s Nuestro Vaivén (Our Sway)
Seven ÊÖ»ú¿´Æ¬ College of Design, Art & Performance Art & Art History artists were selected for Nuestro Vaivén, an exhibition at The Ringling (now through March 22, 2026). This experience proudly showcases 22 artists who represent both the Americas and ÊÖ»ú¿´Æ¬, exploring various themes: expressions of beauty across visual traditions, health interpreted through stories of resilience, and cultural identity revealed in personal and collective narratives.

In Memory of Professor Josué Robles Caraballo
Josué Robles, a 2007 Master of Architecture graduate who served the School of Architecture & Community Design in multiple faculty roles since 2012, passed away on Thursday, November 6, 2025, at the age of 47.
