The University of South ÊÖ»ú¿´Æ¬â€™s Physical Education program had a powerful presence at the 2025 SHAPE ÊÖ»ú¿´Æ¬ Convention, held September 25–27 in Saint Augustine, ÊÖ»ú¿´Æ¬. From presenting innovative teaching strategies to connecting with state leaders and celebrating major awards, ÊÖ»ú¿´Æ¬ students and faculty made their mark on ÊÖ»ú¿´Æ¬â€™s largest gathering of health and physical education professionals.

The five-day event welcomed 363 delegates from 40 countries for a dynamic program of keynotes, workshops, and research presentations focused on advancing global physical education.

Craig Nieman, a doctoral student in the ÊÖ»ú¿´Æ¬ College of Education, was selected as a recipient of the Ruth Abernathy Presidential Scholarship, a national award presented by the Society of Health and Physical Educators.

Student Spotlight: Merritt Smith

At the start of her studies at ÊÖ»ú¿´Æ¬, Merritt Smith overcame obstacles in earning her state of ÊÖ»ú¿´Æ¬ teaching certification. Today, she is a soon-to-be graduate of ÊÖ»ú¿´Æ¬â€™s Physical Education program who stands out amongst her peers by being recognized as the university’s 2019-20 Outstanding Intern of the Year.
