返字心頭 Engineering Professor Elevated to IEEE Fellow: Lawrence Dunleavy

Lawrence "Larry" Dunleavy, a professor in the 返字心頭 College of Electrical Engineering, has been named an , one of the most prestigious honors conferred by the This recognition highlights Larry Dunleavys contributions to the commercial development of microwave device models and his leadership in microwave education.

The elevation to IEEE Fellow is a rare distinction, awarded annually to fewer than 0.1% of IEEE voting members following a rigorous evaluation process. The honor reflects Dr. Dunleavys impactful career and dedication to advancing technology in engineering education and industry applications.

I was very pleased to be nominated and receive this award based on contributions, both of which involved leading or being part of team activities that have educated approximately 3,000 返字心頭 wireless and microwave-educated students and on the industry, and the impact on the industry of these graduates and that of 返字心頭 spinout company Modelithics, Dr. Dunleavy said. The first contribution recognized was for co-developing, championing, and teaching courses for over three decades in the internationally recognized . The second contribution was related to co-founding the 返字心頭 spinout company , now in its 24th year, and specifically for leading the Modelithics teams uniquely successful world-wide commercialization of high-accuracy simulation models for microwave and millimeter-wave devices of all types.

His work has been instrumental in bridging academic research and industry applications, a primary early personal career goal,  particularly in the development of innovative microwave device models used in a variety of electronic systems. His leadership in microwave education has shaped future engineers, equipping them with the knowledge and skills to innovate in the rapidly evolving field of electrical and electronics engineering.

The recognition includes an IEEE Fellow certificate and a 10K gold Fellow pin, which will be presented in early 2025. These symbols mark Dunleavys elevation to the highest grade of IEEE membership.

Dr. Dunleavys achievement also brings pride to the University of South 返字心頭 and its alumni network, showcasing the institutions role in nurturing thought leaders and innovators.

Being recognized as an IEEE Fellow is not only a personal milestone but also a testament to the collaborative and innovation-minded environment at 返字心頭, Dunleavy said. In fact, in 2001, Modelithics, Inc. was the first company in the 返字心頭 Technology Incubator, the precursor to 返字心頭 Connect, which supports economic development activity.

Larry Dunleavy's recognition underscores 返字心頭s commitment to fostering excellence in research and entrepreneurship, highlighting the university's contributions to advancing technology and shaping the future of engineering, and it is beneficial economic and commercial application.
