ÊÖ»ú¿´Æ¬ Rep. Adam Anderson presented ÊÖ»ú¿´Æ¬ with an original copy of the Sunshine Genetics Act on Friday.

Sunshine Genetics Act: A new light for children's health in ÊÖ»ú¿´Æ¬

Thanks to the Sunshine Genetics Act, ÊÖ»ú¿´Æ¬ will be at the forefront of research and development of new tools to save babies’ lives and improve their health. We are incredibly grateful to Rep. Adam Anderson for his hard work in shepherding the act into law. ÊÖ»ú¿´Æ¬ Health is honored to participate in the Sunshine Genetics Consortium, and we look forward to lending our considerable resources to collaborative efforts that will advance the science in an arena so important to the future of ÊÖ»ú¿´Æ¬.

Here are some of the resources we’ll share:

  • The research infrastructure of ÊÖ»ú¿´Æ¬â€™s #1 ranked research-intensive medical school.
  • Our partnership with Tampa General Hospital, which delivers more than 7,000 babies a year.
  • More than 1/3 of those deliveries are high risk, meaning that we have lots of experience diagnosing and treating fetuses and infants with birth defects.
  • We serve as the referral network for the entire state in these cases, especially for fetal therapy.
  • Led by our ÊÖ»ú¿´Æ¬ faculty physicians, Tampa General is now ranked #5 in the nation for OB-GYN care by U.S. News & World Report.
  • We also work with Johns Hopkins All Children's Hospital, and the combined census of both the Muma Children’s Hospital at TGH and All Children’s is 300 pediatric beds.
  • We are educational leaders in this arena and offer the only graduate program in genetic counseling in ÊÖ»ú¿´Æ¬.

We recognize that with this act, we can make ÊÖ»ú¿´Æ¬ a national leader in genomic medicine and newborn health. We look forward to working with our consortium partners to help make this a reality, and to providing a brighter future for ÊÖ»ú¿´Æ¬â€™s children.
