Mandie B. Dunn, Ph.D.

Mandie Bevels Dunn, Ph.D., is an associate professor of English education whose research explores the connection between teachers’ emotions and their pedagogy, with a focus on supporting educators who teach while navigating personal grief.

Dunn is an associate professor of English education at the University of South ÊÖ»ú¿´Æ¬. Her scholarship centers teachers’ lives and well-being, with a focus on the relationship between teachers’ emotions and their pedagogy. Her research examines how teachers who are grieving the death of a loved one navigate reading, writing and thinking with students while managing their emotional labor in the classroom.

Through this work, Dunn identifies the challenges grieving teachers face and the supports needed to sustain them during bereavement in the workplace. Her research has been published in leading journals, including Reading Research Quarterly, English Education and English Teaching: Practice and Critique.

Dunn’s areas of expertise include teacher well-being, teacher grief, emotional labor and English language arts curriculum. She is a member of the National Council of Teachers of English, English Language Arts Teacher Educators and the American Educational Research Association.
