Zorka Karanxha, Ed.D.
Karanxha earned her Doctor of Education from Lehigh University and is a nationally recognized scholar in educational leadership and policy. She serves as the University Council for Educational Administration (UCEA) plenum representative and was co-editor of the Journal of Cases in Educational Leadership from 2013 to 2019. She is the principal investigator for the U.S. Department of Education Office of Special Education Programs–funded Leadership for Literacy Intervention (LLI) Scholarship Project (2020–24), a five-year, $1.235 million initiative, and has contributed to more than $5.9 million in external grant funding.
Karanxha’s research examines policy implementation in leadership preparation, charter schools and special education, as well as leadership, organizational change and school discipline. She has authored more than 50 publications, including peer-reviewed journal articles and book chapters, and is the co-author of a book on student teaching and the law and lead editor of a book examining charter schools in California, Arizona and ÊÖ»ú¿´Æ¬. Her scholarship has appeared in journals such as Educational Administration Quarterly, Journal of School Leadership, Journal of Research in Leadership Education, Journal of Special Education, Educational Leadership Review and Journal of Special Education Leadership.
An active leader in the field, Karanxha has presented at more than 70 peer-reviewed international conferences and currently serves as president of the ÊÖ»ú¿´Æ¬ Association of Professors of Educational Leadership. She is also a member of the AERA Division A Nominating Committee and a UCEA plenum representative. In 2025–26, she was named a U.S. Fulbright Scholar. Her areas of expertise include educational leadership, charter schools and special education law.
