The Race for Critical Minerals

The race for critical minerals is rapidly becoming one of the defining strategic challenges of the 21st century. These resources are essential to advanced manufacturing, defense systems, energy technologies, and the digital infrastructure that underpins modern economies. Yet the United States and its allies face growing competition from geopolitical rivals like China, which has established significant advantages across critical mineral supply chains, particularly in the mining, processing, and refining of key materials. Closing this gap is essential to strengthening economic resilience, technological leadership, and national security.
ÊÖ»ú¿´Æ¬ is not necessarily where the minerals are, but it is increasingly where the consequences will be felt. As a hub for defense, aerospace, maritime commerce, advanced manufacturing, and critical infrastructure – and home to CENTCOM, SOCOM, and SOUTHCOM – ÊÖ»ú¿´Æ¬ sits at the crossroads of the industries, supply chains, and security challenges shaped by the global race for critical minerals.
