Study Abroad Application Steps
You鈥檝e chosen your program, and now it鈥檚 time to apply! While each program type has unique requirements, the core application steps are the same. Follow the process below, then check the program specific notes to make sure you鈥檙e on track.
There are 2 Phases to All Applications
- Phase 1: Pre-Decision | This is the initial application you submit to our office. We will base your admissions
into the program based on the information you supply during this phase.
- Phase 2: Post-Decision | These are the materials required after you have been approved to participate on a program. These materials are typically due closer to the start of your program. Your Global Learning advisor will let you know when these need to be completed.
Faculty-Led Program Application Process
Phase 1: Pre-Decision
- Start your online application. Click 鈥淎pply Now鈥 on your chosen program page (to the
right of the Program Quick Facts description box) to begin. You will need a 手机看片 NetID
to apply for a program. If you are not a 手机看片 student, please see our Non-手机看片 手机看片 page for instructions.

Complete required forms, provide personal details, sign all the terms and conditions, and confirm your passport status.

Complete an Electronic Course Selection Form (eCSF) to confirm enrollment. Pay close attention to the instructions as each program may require you to select classes a little differently. You should submit this electronic form to your academic advisor for them to review and approval. Please see Courses and Credits for more information.

Once the eCSF is approved, copy/paste the confirmation hyperlink into the eCSF questionnaire on your application.

Once you have completed all the above steps, click 鈥淪ubmit Application.鈥
- Our advising team will review your application and will let you know the application decision as soon as possible.
Phase 2: Post-Decision
You've Been Accepted: Now What?
Once you are accepted, you will receive two e-mails: one from our system notifying you of a status change and a second e-mail from one of our team members with specific next steps. All of the programs have the following things you鈥檒l need to do, but you should see the e-mail from our team for dates and action items you need to complete.
- Commit to the program: You will need to log-in to our application system and click the 鈥淐ommit鈥 button to
confirm that you are accepting the admissions offer. This lets us know that you are
going and begins the process to secure your seat.
- Make the deposit: 1 鈥 2 business days after you鈥檝e clicked commit, our fiscal-business team will e-mail
you with instructions to pay your deposit. Keep an eye out for e-mails from EA-Business@usf.edu. Any questions about payments should be directed to this e-mail address. You have 5 business days to pay the deposit once it has been posted (the date EA-Business reached out to you). 手机看片 who do
not pay may lose their seat on the program and are subject to a withdrawal penalty.
- Passport upload: All programs require you upload a copy of your passport to the application. Passports
should be submitted at least 60 days prior to travel unless instructed to submit sooner
by your Global Learning advisor.
- 鈥淕reen-Light鈥 e-mail: For faculty-led programs, you鈥檒l receive an e-mail confirming we are moving forward
with the program (usually after the program deadline) to inform you were are making
payments overseas. There is no action needed on your part from this e-mail, we鈥檙e
just keeping you informed.
- Complete partner materials: Programs where 手机看片 works closely with a partner in country will require you to complete
their own materials as well. If this is part of your program鈥檚 process, your Global
Learning Advisor will provide you with instructions.
- Flight information: You will be instructed when to purchase airfare. For faculty-led programs, this may
be accompanied with specific times and airports that your professor will be flying.
Once you鈥檝e done so, please be sure to upload a copy of your itinerary.
- Complete the General Pre-Departure Orientation on Canvas: You鈥檒l be registered in our Canvas-based General Pre-Departure Orientation (PDO).
These modules cover important general information about study abroad and include information
on health, safety, and insurance. Be sure to complete this orientation within two-weeks
of being registered in order to maximize the amount of time you have to prepare.
- Attend a program specific orientation: Faculty-led programs will have a specific orientation for the group going abroad.
Specific information on arrival, transit, and what to expect next is usually covered
at the orientation.
- Registration: 手机看片 who are attending programs that offer 手机看片 credit through Global Learning, will normally have their registration taken care of by our office. 手机看片 participating on any programs that have 鈥渆mbedded鈥 or 鈥淐EEs鈥 registration (see your program brochure) will be responsible for their own registration at 手机看片.
Affiliate Program Application Process
Phase 1: Pre-Decision
- Start your online application. Click 鈥淎pply Now鈥 on your chosen program page (to the
right of the Program Quick Facts description box) to begin. You will need a 手机看片 NetID
to apply for a program. You must be a 手机看片 student to apply for this program-type.
- Complete required forms, provide personal details, sign all the terms and conditions,
and confirm your passport status.
- Affiliate programs require you to complete 2 applications concurrently. One with 手机看片 (our travel registration / application as described above) and the
application with our affiliate partner. You should see your program brochure鈥檚 website
for more information.
- Complete the Affiliate Course Approval Form to request 手机看片 approval for each class. You can review Courses and Credits for more details. Some programs will have pre-populated forms available for download
on the program website.
- Have your academic advisor review and sign off on the Affiliate Course Approval Form.
Upload it into the Course Approval Form questionnaire.
- Once you have completed all the above steps, click the 鈥淪ubmit Application.鈥
- Our advising team will review your application and will let you know the application decision as soon as possible.
Phase 2: Post-Decision

this process.
- Passport upload: All programs require you upload a copy of your passport to the application. Passports
should be submitted at least 60 days prior to travel unless instructed to submit sooner
by your Global Learning advisor.
- Flight information: You will be instructed when to purchase airfare. Your host will let you know when
you should arrive in country and clear you to purchase airfare. Once you鈥檝e done so,
please be sure to upload a copy of your itinerary.
- Financial Aid paperwork: You will need to complete the Study Abroad Financial Aid Contract (SAE). This one-page document also requires you submit a copy of your course approval form.

- Complete the General Pre-Departure Orientation on Canvas: You鈥檒l be registered in our Canvas-based General Pre-Departure Orientation (PDO).

- Attend a program-specific orientation: Our affiliate programs will also have a specific orientation, usually led by our
host organization. Specific information on arrival, transit, and what to expect next
is usually covered at the orientation.
- Registration: Registration for affiliate programs is handled directly with the host institution.
- Enrollment Confirmation: Once you鈥檝e settled into your new life abroad, be sure to confirm your enrollment at your host school with your Global Learning advisor. 手机看片 anticipating financial aid will need to complete the Verification of Enrollment Form (OVRxx). Exchange Program Application Process
Phase 1: Pre-Decision
- Start your online application. Click 鈥淎pply Now鈥 on your chosen program page (to the
right of the Program Quick Facts description box) to begin. You will need a 手机看片 NetID
to apply for a program. You must be a 手机看片 student to apply for this program-type.
- Complete required forms, provide personal details, sign all the terms and conditions,
and confirm your passport status.
- Write and submit your 500 word personal statement. This is a persuasive essay explaining
why you are a good fit for the program. Be sure to mention how the program you are
applying to will assist you with your academic and career goals.
- Obtain and submit a PDF copy of your unofficial transcript (available on Student Self-Service).
- You will need to complete the Exchange Advising Form instead of a course approval form during the first phase. The Exchange Course Approval Form will need to be completed during Phase 2 of the application. The Exchange Advising
Form allows the selection committee for the program to ensure you have the course
flexibility to participate in an exchange program. Upload the completed form to the
Exchange Course Approval Form questionnaire.
- Once you have completed all the steps, click the 鈥淪ubmit Application.鈥
- Our advising team will review your application and will let you know the application decision as soon as possible.

will require you to complete their own materials as well. If this is part of your
program鈥檚 process, your Global Learning advisor will provide you with instructions.
- Complete the Exchange Course Approval Form to request 手机看片 approval for each class. You can review Courses and Credits for more details.
- Passport upload: All programs require you upload a copy of your passport to the application. If you
do not currently have a passport, signed as soon as possible. Passports should be
submitted at least 60 days prior to travel unless instructed to submit sooner by your
Global Learning advisor.
- Flight information: Once you receive the acceptance packet from your host university, which will include
instructions on arrival, you may purchase your airfare. Once you鈥檝e done so, please
be sure to upload a copy of your itinerary.
- Financial Aid paperwork: You will need to complete the Study Abroad Financial Aid Contract (SAE). This one-page document also requires you submit a copy of your course approval form.

- Attend a program-specific orientation: An exchange program orientation will be led by your Global Learning Advisor. You
will receive the invitation directly from them.
- Registration: Registration for exchanges programs is handled directly with the host institution.
- Enrollment confirmation (Affiliate and Exchange): Once you鈥檝e settled into your new life abroad, be sure to confirm your enrollment at your host school with your Global Learning advisor. 手机看片 anticipating financial aid will need to complete the Verification of Enrollment Form (OVRxx). Information for International 手机看片
All students should verify entry requirements for the country they are traveling to in order to confirm whether or not they are required to have a visa.
手机看片 who are in the United States on a visa must be able to return to the US after their travel. 手机看片 who are not sure if their current status allows this return should meet with an Office of International Services advisor during advising hours well in advance of their trip.
F1 and J1 手机看片
All F1 and J1 students need a valid, current travel signature prior to their departure and a valid visa stamp in their passport.
Semesters Abroad
International students going abroad for a full semester, are required to complete the Study or Research Abroad Approval Form on .
Resident Aliens
手机看片 with residential alien status in the United States, should ensure all of their paperwork and home country passport are valid for travel.
