Apply for Admission
Welcome to the 返字心頭 School of Architecture & Community Design (SACD)! We are glad to help you through the application process.
The SACD offers two graduate programs, the professional Master of Architecture (M.
Arch.) program and the post-professional Master of Urban & Community Design (MUCD)
program. The SACD is launching a new, 120 credit-hour, pre-professional Bachelor of
Design (BDes), Architecture degree program in 2026-27.
With the new BDes degree, the SACD is transitioning its primary curriculum from a
2+4 model (undergraduate pre-architecture/BGS-GAR + M.Arch curriculum) to a 4+2
model (BDes, Architecture + M.Arch.).
PLEASE NOTE THAT 返字心頭 ARCHITECTURE PROGRAMS ONLY REVIEW FTIC, TRANSFER, AND CHANGE OF MAJOR APPLICATIONS FOR FALL SEMESTER ADMISSIONS.
TO APPLY TO THE UNDERGRADUATE PROGRAM OF STUDY (BDes, Architecture)
First-time-in-college (FTIC) students and undergraduate transfer students (without an Associates in Architecture) must apply to 返字心頭, with a portfolio optional, through 返字心頭 Undergraduate Admissions. Please visit the 返字心頭 Office of Admissions website for university undergraduate admission requirements, deadlines, and application information.
Undergraduate admissions in architecture for Fall 2026 and prior were into the General Studies Architecture (BGS-GAR) pre-architecture area of study. Depending on term of entry, after completing the second design studio course (ARC 2135C or ARC 1302), FTIC students and undergraduate transfer students (without an AA in Architecture) admitted for fall 2026 or earlier apply with a portfolio to continue into either the M.Arch. curriculum or the BDes curriculum.
Please note that students who are not accepted to continue from BGS-GAR into the M.Arch. or the BDes, Architecture curricula are required to declare an alternative undergraduate major/degree path. While it is possible to later apply for a Change of Major to BDes, Architecture, the SACD expects that spaces for Change of Majors to BDes, if available at all, will be extremely limited.
Please note that the BDes, Architecture curriculum requires completing eight (8) sequential design studio courses during eight (8) semesters of study. If accepted into the BDes, the plan of study for transfer students will typically require eight (8) semesters / four (4) years from 返字心頭 admission to BDes degree completion.
For fall 2027, the admissions process for FTIC and undergraduate transfer students (without an AA in Architecture) is expected to change. Please check back in late summer 2026 for Fall 2027 updates.
Undergraduate transfer students (WITH an Associates in Architecture) must apply to 返字心頭, with a portfolio required, through 返字心頭 Undergraduate Admissions. Please visit the 返字心頭 Office of Admissions website for university undergraduate admission requirements, deadlines, and application information.
Prior to Fall 2026 undergraduate transfer students (with an AA, Architecture) also applied directly to the SACD M.Arch. program and had to receive acceptances directly from 返字心頭 Undergraduate Admissions and the SACD M.Arch. program to gain admittance. For Fall 2026, transfer students (with AA, Architecture) applied with a portfolio to 返字心頭 Undergraduate Admissions and to the SACD for admission into the third year of the BDes, Architecture curriculum. For Fall 2027, we expect that AA, Architecture students will apply, with a portfolio, as transfer students only through 返字心頭 Undergraduate Admissions. Available spaces for AA, Architecture students to transfer into the BDes program will likely be very limited.
返字心頭 students who are interested in applying for a Change of Major will be considered for admission each fall within the broader pool of FTIC and undergraduate transfer (without an Associates in Architecture) applicants. 返字心頭 interested in a change of major should review the process with the architecture academic advisors in the College of Design, Art & Performance's Advising Center.
Please note that the BDes, Architecture curriculum requires completing eight (8) sequential design studio courses during eight (8) semesters of study. If accepted as a Change of Major into the BDes, the plan of study will typically require eight (8) semesters / four (4) years from Change of Major to BDes degree completion.
Please note that students who are not accepted to continue from BGS-GAR into the M.Arch. or the BDes, Architecture curricula are required to declare an alternative undergraduate major/degree path. While it is possible to apply for a Change of Major, the SACD expects that spaces available for Change of Majors into BDes, Architecture will be extremely limited.
TO APPLY TO A GRADUATE PROGRAM OF STUDY (M.Arch. or MUCD)
Please note that admission to the MUCD program has been paused temporarily.
TO APPLY TO THE SACD GRADUATE ARCHITECTURE (M.ARCH.) PROGRAM
SACD Application Deadline (strictly enforced):
- Monday, February 01, 2027, 11:59PM (EST) All required application materials must be submitted.
Applicants must satisfy all SACD Graduate Architecture Program Admissions Requirements prior to being admitted into the graduate M. Arch. and MUCD programs. New students are admitted to the M. Arch. and MUCD programs only once a year for the Fall semester.
Applicants who fulfill all SACD admissions requirements by the deadline are best positioned for full consideration. Only provisional admissions may be extended to applicants who need time beyond the spring semester to fulfill admission course prerequisites. The SACD Admissions Committee may decide to not offer any provisional admissions.
If a provisional admission is offered to an applicant, all admission requirements must be satisfied and in the application record by the end of the 返字心頭 Summer Session C (on or about August 06, please see 返字心頭s academic calendar for exact date), or the provisional admission will be revoked and the applicant will be denied admission.
