Why should I get a job?

To achieve your career goals, part-time employment while in college provides you with real-world experience and gives you the opportunity to develop skills and competencies that employers desire, even when the work is not directly related to your chosen field. Work experiences add to your resume and help to demonstrate your ambition and work ethic to future employers.

Consider areas of interest on campus -- labs, recreation center, facilities, office work, events planning, plus so much more -- and then log into , ÊÖ»ú¿´Æ¬'s employment portal for students, to see what is available. You can also approach a department/facility of interest and inquire if they are hiring.

ÊÖ»ú¿´Æ¬ also has that are offered as part of some students' financial aid packages (check your financial aid offer to see if FWS is part of your award). FWS positions are regular part-time jobs but are paid from Federal funding, and can also be found on Handshake.

When should I get a part-time job?

Part-time employment opportunities are available all year round, although on-campus opportunities are more plentiful just prior or at the beginning of the semester, more so before fall semester. Some students seek employment as they are first setting foot on campus; others prefer to wait until they are settled into university life and have their academics and extracurricular activities established. Timing is really a matter of need and/or preference.
